My Cute Boy

Even though it was raining yesterday, I decided to take Colt to the Barbershop to get his hair cut. It wasn’t excessively long, but it was taking longer to blow dry after his bath/shower. And I love my son with short hair. I love his barbershop. It’s first-come-first-serve with the line of barbers (all Italian). I’ve had 3 different ones (even a lady), and none of them have disappointed me yet. I ask for a #1 and request that they leave the top a bit long in case I want to style a faux-hawk some days. And my son just loves that experience of going there. He just grins from ear to ear when he’s in that chair.
Someone suggested to me that I should purchase a shaver and that I’d save so much money in the long run. (1) I’m sure some of you remember the time I attempted to shave his head. Right before his 2nd birthday. I didn’t shave it…I “bald patched” him.
It was not a pretty sight. I am scarred by that episode. He was too young to know any better then and kept on smiling. But my son is vain now.
(2) How can I rob him of his happiness of the special time of going to the Barbershop???? (3) Somehow I think that if I did it at home, he would not be able to sit still for me the way he does at the Barbershop.
Afterwards I decided to head to Fortuna Bakery to grab a dozen portuguese buns ($3.50). They’re my favourite. I bought bread at Cioffi’s Meat Market & Deli once, but wasn’t too impressed, and their prices were higher. I know Cioffi’s has a huge Italian clientele. It’s more of a grocery store. Very popular. But I just can’t get past how tight the store is inside. I’ve always wanted to peruse it as I see how many people go in & out. But when you’re dragging 2 kids, and the aisles fit only one person at a time…it’s just not a comfortable shopping experience. I know they expanded…they’ve opened another one a few stores down. But they don’t sell the same things. It’s mostly grocery-items there. I just like going for bread or deli meat. Anyway, the great thing about stores on this strip is that some of the workers have been there forever. I got some new young girl. Asked for the portuguese buns. And then I asked to 200-g of prosciutto.
Girl: “You want Canadian or Italian?”
Me: “What’s the difference?”
Girl: (Looks at me like I’m stupid) “The price.”
OK, you’ve been there before, I know. When she said that, I just got stunned for a moment and was like: “Huh?” (like, did she really just say that?) . And then my next reaction was: “What the f%#@?” (OK, I didn’t say that out loud…just in my head)
I mean, no DUH…I can see on the board the price was dif-fer-ent. Then the older lady beside her intercepts (she probably saw the stunned look on my face) and says sweetly: “The Canadian is a bit more moist, whereas the Italian is a bit more salty.” Ding-ding-ding!!! THAT was the answer I wanted! I mean, it wouldn’t have been so bad if the young girl didn’t seen so snotty about things. She even looked unimpressed when that lady helped her with that answer. Unappreciative.

Ahhh cioffis. My highschool boyfriend worked there and my mom knows the family well. But I also hate going there because of the tiny aisle ways. I haven’t seen their new shop though. Chad and I always shop at Bosa just off of Boundary. Their prices are better since they supply a lot of the Italian delis in the area, plus their store is HUGE. Its like Italian heaven.
I know!!! My coworker JUST told me about BOSA too. I definately have to check it out!
